Thirsty Thursday

It’s Thursday, so you know what that means. You don’t? Oh. Well, that means tomorrow is Friday. It also means that Super Bowl 47 is in three days. And other than those two things, I couldn’t honestly give you another reason why it’s relevant that I point out that today is Thursday.

I guess I’m just reaching for a reason to write something. So, let me give you a few things that are on my mind.

HGH and baseball- Is anyone surprised? Let me tell you a little story. This story begins many years ago and follows the tale of a young boy who wanted to be a professional baseball player. His idols growing up were Cal Ripken Jr. and Dale Murphy, men of profound grace and professionalism. This young boy becomes a young man and displays an amazing array of natural baseball talent.

He goes on to become one of the most decorated players in the Major Leagues and even gets a chance to play for one of the most storied franchises in all of professional sports, even winning a World Title. And now, at the twilight of his career, he has become a punch line for late-night talk show hosts, sports radio hosts and even little old bloggers like me. He was named on the Mitchell Report, admitted using steroids dating back to 2004 but claimed he had been clean since then, but is now named on another list yet again. His name, is Alex Rodriguez.

You knew that’s who I was talking about. We ALL know the story of A-Rod by now. But instead of hate and animosity that most feel for Alex, I feel saddened. Not sorry, but sad for Alex. How a player so talented, could ever feel like he needed to something illegal and immoral to bend the rules further in his favor is beyond me. Alex, you let your fans down, you let your heroes down, you let your team down. But more importantly, you let yourself down.

Lance Armstrong interview and Tiger wins a tournament- I’d like to thank a good friend Kathy Shelton for linking to this earlier this week. It perfectly describes how I feel about all things Lance Armstrong and Tiger Woods…..and Dr. Phil for that matter.

Super Bowl 47- I will be making my official picks for the game, as well as several popular prop bets sometime tomorrow or Saturday. But for now, let’s just say it will be a finish Edgar Allan Poe could be proud of.
